New page

Caballero was produced by Ed. Laurens in The Hague (in fact a suburb of The Hague named Rijswijk) in The Netherlands. For a long period, Caballero was by far Holland's best selling domestic cigarette.

It was a full-flavour cigarette, a little thicker than normal, with a lovely smell of high-quality tobacco with a taste of liquorice to it. One could always recognize the smell apart from other brands.

During the seventies, a rumour was spread that Caballero contained a very low dosis of Cocaine, wich off course was never proved by anyone. Fact was that people who usually smoked Caballero, never changed their brand. This could off course also be caused by the specific taste and smell.

Ed. Laurens produced also a smaller brand, named Laurens #14.
