Nighthawk552001: /* History */

==History==
Viceroy cigarettes are made by Brown & Williamson, which was owned by British American Tobacco, and, since 2004, by Reynolds American Inc., a joint venture between the U.S. branch of British American Tobacco and R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company.

Viceroy originated in the U.S. in 1936 as the world's first cork-tipped filter cigarette. In 1952 it was the first brand to add a cellulose acetate filter which established a new industry standard. In 1953, Viceroy Filter Kings were introduced. In 1990, Viceroy Box Kings and Lights Box Kings were introduced on the U.S. market, followed by Viceroy Ultra Lights Kings and Ultra Lights 100's in 1992 and New Viceroy 100's box styles, and Viceroy Menthol in 2000. All Viceroy styles changed to a more contemporary packaging on packs and cartons without changes to the product blend.

After the Brown & Williamson merger, the brand has been played down, continuing to be sold on the markets where demand is strong, like Romania, Middle East, Turkey and Argentine.

In Canada, Viceroy was manufactured by [[ManufacturerImperial_Tobacco_Canada |Imperial Tobacco Canada]], which brought out Viceroy Filter King Size in 1958. It was discontinued some time in the 1970s.

Imperial reintroduced the American-blend Viceroy in Red [Full Flavour] and Blue [Light] in 2007 as a discount brand. This is a first for the Canadian marketplace; traditionally, a packet of 20 American-blend cigarettes cost the same or slightly more than a packet of 25 Canadian-made cigarettes.

These are sold as a discount brand, but they dont taste at all like the US blend Viceroy.

Marlboro cigarettes are the world’s most popular, top-selling brand, but, until recently, they were never marketed or sold in Canada. The Canadian trade marks for Philip Morris’ cigarette brands (including Marlboro) were originally held by the Tuckett Tobacco Company, which was purchased by the Imperial Tobacco Company of Canada in 1930. The trade marks switched hands in 1932, and since then, Imperial has kept the name Marlboro in use in order to prevent Philip Morris from marketing it in Canada. The Imperial version is a Virginia blend, filtered king-size (85mm) brand which has never been promoted or advertised. Many Canadians are very unaware that cigarettes with the Marlboro 'name' are marketed in Canada -- they are carried by a small number of tobacco stores, and are often stored in the bottom shelves.

However, Rothmans, Benson & Hedges, which is 40 per cent. owned by Altria, found a most unique loophole which allowed them to introduce Philip Morris’ Marlboro into the Canadian market in July, 2006. The brand they launched was, for the very first time, a cigarette that looked like, smelled like, and by all accounts, tasted like, the world's largest cigarette brand. The only noticeable difference is that this Marlboro-like brand does not carry the Marlboro 'name', yet the pack has the famous Marlboro roof-top design on its packaging with the Philip Morris logo, along with an old ad slogan at the bottom of the front: ”Come to where the flavor is.” The brand is informally referred to as Rooftop, and, like most American-blend cigarettes in Canada, is sold as a luxury/super-premium brand.

In my experience with them, they taste NOTHING like US Marlboros or any of their European counterparts!
The Cohiba cigar took the world of smokers by surprise one day in 1966. Its name became famous almost upon registration of the brand in 1969. It is grown at full length in certain selected fine plantations in the Vuelta Abajo, in the province of Pinar.
Some of the finest cigars you can lay your hands on. Only the best leaves from 10 farms of the Vuelta Abajo region supply Cohiba. The only brand with three fermentations. All can appreciate this brand, rich, buckets of flavor without being overpowering.

The taste of them is very cigar like and very strong, even if as the package indicates only 10mg "tar", they seem to be a lot stronger than that!

Davidoff cigarettes were born to be elite among the cigarettes. No other brand in the world is able to match Davidoff cigarettes' prestige, superior taste and stylishness. The first Davidoff cigarette, the famous Davidoff Magnum, was created by Zino Davidoff exclusively for true tobacco connoisseurs.
Davidoff is a popular German brand of high-end tobacco products (mainly cigars and cigarettes), produced by Imperial Tobacco following its purchase of Reemtsma Zigarettenfabriken.
The tobacco products are produced under licence of Davifoff & Cie, founded by Zino Davidoff and based in Geneve, Switzerland. The company also produces a line of high-end perfume, coffee and fashion accessories.

The cigarette line includes the standard "classic", "mild", "lights", "ultra lights" and "menthol" flavours, as well as the more expensive rich "Magnum" flavour. Due to legal issues, the sale of Davidoff cigarettes is prohibited in the United States, however they can still be ordered from discount cigarette merchants on the Internet.

Davidoff cigars can however be found in most smoke shops throughout the globe, including the United States.<br>
Davidoffs are now available in Canada in some stores.

Introduced in 1853, LUCKY STRIKE is rich in heritage and one of the worlds best-known brands. It was first manufactured cigarette. The modern pack design was designed by Raymond Loewy, creator of Campbells Soup label, Shell Oil logo and many other brand icons.

The brand was introduced by R.A. Patterson of Richmond, Virginia in 1871 as a cut-plug chewing tobacco and later a cigarette. In 1905, the company was acquired by the American Tobacco Company (ATC), and Lucky Strike would later prove to be its answer to R.J. Reynolds' Camel.

In 1917, the brand started using the slogan "It's Toasted", instead of “Lucky Strike Green has gone to war”, meant to inform consumers about the manufacturing method in which the tobacco is toasted rather than sun-dried. Because of a different manufacturing process, Lucky Strike cigarettes have a unique and distinctive flavour. The message "L.S.M.F.T." ("Lucky Strike means fine tobacco") was introduced on the package in the same year.

The brand's signature dark green pack was changed to white in 1942. In a famous advertising campaign that used the slogan "Lucky Strike Green has gone to war", the company claimed the change was made because the copper used in the green color was needed for World War II. American Tobacco actually used chromium to produce the green ink, and copper to produce the gold-colored trim. A limited supply of each was available, and substitute materials made the package look drab. Many argue that the white package was introduced not to help the war effort but to lower costs and to increase the appeal of packaging among female smokers.

In 1978 and 1994, export rights and U.S. rights were purchased by Brown & Williamson. In 1996, filtered styles were launched in San Francisco, but it was not until 1999 were they available all over the United States. This cigarette is made with Turkish tobaccos.

The Lucky Strike logo was created by famous industrial designer Raymond Loewy, who also created the logos for Exxon, Shell and Coca Cola. The logo later became a prominent fixture in Pop-era artist Ray Johnson's collages.

Luckies are considered to be one of the Worlds finest cigarettes and have a loyal and faithful following, they also are a topic of an urban legend that was that one of every 20 in a pack was actually a Marijuna joint, not true of course!

Lucky Strike Filters and Lights were discontinued in the US in late 2006. only the non filter ones are still available,Filter and Lights known as "Original Red" and "Original Silver" are being made in Europe and are available on the internet.

Cigarettes have existed in the history of mankind since the historical days. The first cigarette that rolls up with tobacco happened when Christopher Columbus' people met the red Indians on Cuba in 1492. The word tobacco originated from Indians' words: tobago and tobacca. Tobacco is related to garden vegetables, flowers, weeds, and poisonous herbs such as potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, petunias, jimson wood, ground cherries, and nightshade.
