The Tyomies brand of cigarettes has a rich and wonderful history. In 1899 a Greek, Mr. A.K. Christides, began making cigarettes in Helsinki. Tyomies were first made by Christides in 1901, continued to be made through both world wars, and finally withdrawn in the 1990's. Finland's coat of arms, a lion with a sword, is part of the Tyomies graphics, and fittingly so. Tyomies boxes were part of the food parcels given to Finnish partisans fighting the Russian efforts to seize Finland during World War Two.
